The lotion is vegan. The balm is not. We lead with that.
Two Leaf Baby Baby Lotion contains two ingredients — unrefined shea butter and virgin coconut oil. Both are plant derived. No animal products, no beeswax, no animal testing. The Diaper Balm contains beeswax and is not vegan. We say this clearly so you do not have to dig for the answer.
Both ingredients plant derived. No animal products of any kind. Fully vegan without exception.
The balm contains beeswax — an animal product. We say so clearly on every page. The lotion is your fully vegan option.
No hedging, no gray areas. Four reasons the lotion clears every vegan standard.
Shea butter from the shea tree. Coconut oil from the coconut palm. Both entirely plant based. No animal products of any kind.
The lotion contains no beeswax, no honey, no lanolin, no carmine, no gelatin. Zero animal-derived ingredients in any form.
We are a small handmade brand. We have never tested on animals. There is no testing infrastructure here — just two people making lotion for a baby they love.
Fair trade certified sourcing from Ghana and Sri Lanka. The plant ingredients were obtained from communities treated and compensated fairly.
The vegan philosophy starts from a question: does this need to come from an animal? If it does not, use the plant alternative.
Two Leaf Baby starts from a similar question: does this ingredient need to be here? If it does not, leave it out.
"Both philosophies arrive at the same place — the simplest, most honest formula. Two plant-based ingredients, nothing added that does not serve a purpose."
The lotion is vegan not because we designed it to be vegan. It is vegan because when we removed everything that did not need to be there, what remained was two plant-derived ingredients that have been used for centuries. The minimalism and the vegan status are the same thing expressed two ways.
Vegan consumers care about more than the absence of animal products. They care about how the plant ingredients were obtained. Here is our answer.

Proof there are no synthetic or animal-derived preservatives extending the shelf life.
The ingredients that extend conventional baby lotion shelf life to two years include synthetic preservatives that can be petroleum-derived or processed with animal products. Water-free formulas with short shelf lives do not require them.
Our lotion lasts 30 days after opening. Not because we failed to preserve it. Because we refused to add the things that would have.
"We respect the standard enough to state the reality plainly. The balm contains beeswax. It is not vegan."
The vegan community has seen too many brands hedge this language. Beeswax-friendly. Bee-derived. Naturally produced by bees. We are not going to do that.
If beeswax is where you draw the line — which is a reasonable and legitimate position — the Baby Lotion is your product. 100% plant based. 100% vegan. Two ingredients. Made fresh and shipped with your batch video.
