The Products

What is the difference between the Baby Lotion and the Diaper Balm?

The lotion contains two ingredients — shea butter and coconut oil. It is a daily moisturizer for baby skin. The balm contains three ingredients — shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax. The beeswax creates a physical moisture barrier that protects skin at every diaper change. The lotion moisturizes. The balm protects. Many families use both.

Can I use the Baby Lotion anywhere on my baby's body?

Yes. Both ingredients are gentle enough for the face, body, scalp, and anywhere else. Avoid direct contact with the eyes.

Can I use the Diaper Balm as a general skin balm?

Yes. Shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax together make an excellent barrier and moisturizing balm for chapped skin, dry patches, lips, hands, or anywhere needing protection. Adults in the family use it too.

What does the lotion smell like?

Unrefined shea butter has a mild natural nutty scent. Virgin coconut oil has a light natural coconut scent. There is no added fragrance of any kind. The scent is subtle and fades quickly after application.

How much do I use per application?

A small amount goes a long way. Warm a pea-sized amount between your palms first — body heat helps the shea butter and coconut oil blend into a smooth texture. For the balm, a thin layer at each diaper change is sufficient. You are creating a barrier, not a thick coat.

Ingredients & Safety

What are the ingredients in the Baby Lotion?

Unrefined shea butter. Virgin coconut oil. That is the complete ingredient list. See our Ingredients page for full detail on both.

What are the ingredients in the Diaper Balm?

Unrefined shea butter. Virgin coconut oil. Beeswax. That is the complete ingredient list. See our Ingredients page for full detail on all three.

Is it safe for newborns?

Yes. Both products contain only food grade natural ingredients with no synthetic additives, fragrances, or preservatives. Always patch test on a small area of skin first as you would with any new product on newborn skin.

My baby has a tree nut allergy. Is shea butter safe?

Shea butter is derived from the shea tree nut. Current scientific consensus indicates that allergenic proteins are largely absent in the processed fat, and most allergists consider the risk extremely low. However if your child has a confirmed tree nut allergy, consult your pediatrician before use. We will not tell you the risk is zero because we cannot tell you that. See our Ingredients page for full detail.

My baby has eczema. Can I use this?

Coconut oil works well for many babies with eczema-prone skin. However some dermatologists advise against it for specific eczema presentations because lauric acid can disrupt the skin barrier in certain cases. Evidence is mixed and outcomes vary significantly by individual. Patch test carefully and consult your pediatrician if your child has been diagnosed with eczema.

Does the balm treat diaper rash?

The balm prevents and protects against moisture-related diaper rash. It is not designed to treat an active severe rash or a yeast infection. Coconut oil's natural antifungal properties provide active protection against the organisms that cause rash. For an existing moderate to severe rash, see your pediatrician. Once it has cleared, use the balm for ongoing prevention.

Why does the balm not contain zinc oxide?

Zinc oxide is effective at treating active diaper rash. We chose not to include it because this balm is built for parents who want a fully natural, minimal ingredient formula. Coconut oil's natural antifungal properties provide active protection. If your baby needs zinc oxide treatment for an active rash, use it — then switch to this balm for prevention once it has cleared.

Can adults use these products?

Yes. Both products work well on adult skin. One note for adults with acne-prone facial skin: coconut oil has a high comedogenic rating and can clog pores for some people. Better suited to body use than facial use for acne-prone adults. Both are excellent for body moisturizing.

Shelf Life & Freshness

How long does the Baby Lotion last?

Unopened: 3 months from the batch date stamped on the bottom. Opened: 30 days. Store in a cool dry place away from bathroom humidity.

How long does the Diaper Balm last?

Unopened: 4 months from the batch date. Opened: 45 days. Beeswax creates a harder surface that naturally limits contamination, giving the balm a longer window than the lotion.

Why is the shelf life so short?

Because there are no preservatives. Water-based products need preservatives to stay shelf stable for one to two years. Our products contain no water — they are anhydrous formulas. The short shelf life is proof that nothing artificial is keeping them stable. That is the point, not the problem.

How do I know when my product was made?

The batch date is written by hand on the bottom of every unit. You will always know exactly when your product was made.

How should I store it?

Cool dry place away from humidity. A bedroom nightstand is better than a bathroom shelf. Heat and steam shorten the effective window of both products.

What is the best way to scoop it out?

Use a small clean spatula or wooden spoon rather than fingers. Wet hands introduce moisture and contamination that shorten the shelf life. Keeping the jar clean extends the full 30 or 45 day window.

Halal, Vegan & Cultural Standards

Is the Baby Lotion halal?

Yes. The lotion contains no alcohol and no animal derived ingredients. It meets halal ingredient standards.

Is the Diaper Balm halal?

The balm contains beeswax. Beeswax is considered halal by the majority of Islamic scholars as it is a natural byproduct rather than derived from slaughter. However standards vary by school of thought. Consult your own authority if this is a consideration for your household.

Is the Baby Lotion vegan?

Yes. The lotion is 100% plant based with no animal products of any kind.

Is the Diaper Balm vegan?

No. The balm contains beeswax which is an animal product. The lotion is fully vegan. We are clear about this because it matters.

Are the products kosher?

Both ingredients in the lotion — shea butter and coconut oil — are plant derived and pareve. The lotion is kosher friendly by nature. We are not certified but the ingredients meet kosher standards. The balm contains beeswax which is also generally considered kosher. We recommend consulting your own authority on the beeswax question if certification matters to your household.

Is this product suitable for Ayurvedic practice?

Yes. Coconut oil is central to Ayurvedic infant care tradition and has been for over two thousand years. Our coconut oil is sourced from Sri Lanka's Coconut Triangle — the same region the Ayurvedic tradition comes from. See our Coconut Oil Origin page for the full story.

Batch Transparency

What is the batch video?

Every batch we make is filmed from start to finish — the ingredients, the process, the pour into the jar, the hand-written date on the bottom. When your order ships you receive a link to the video of the specific batch your product came from. You can see exactly what went into it and who made it.

What is the personal thank you?

While the batch video is already recording, we turn the camera around and say your name and your order number out loud. A ten second personal thank you from the person who made your product. Every order. Every time.

What is a batch number?

Every production run gets a sequential number — Batch 001, Batch 002, and so on. The batch number is written on the bottom of every unit along with the date it was made. Your batch number is included in your order confirmation and in the batch video link we send you.

Sourcing

Where does your shea butter come from?

Ghana, West Africa. We source directly from Baraka Shea Butter — a fair trade certified company that works directly with Ghanaian women using traditional hand-processing methods. See our Suppliers page and our Women's Gold page for the full story.

Where does your coconut oil come from?

Sri Lanka's Coconut Triangle, near Colombo. We source through The Coconut Cooperative — USDA Organic, Fair Trade USA, and Kosher certified, with direct farmer relationships they built in person across Southeast Asia. See our Suppliers page and our Coconut Oil Origin page for the full story.

Why does sourcing matter for a baby lotion?

Because every ingredient came from somewhere and someone made it. We believe the people who buy our product deserve to know the complete supply chain — not just the ingredient name on a label, but who grew it, who processed it, and whether those people were treated fairly. Most brands cannot tell you that. We can, because we built it that way from the beginning.
