Our Story

The story behind
Two Leaf Baby

Two parents. One baby. One ingredient list that was finally short enough.

Chapter One

We tried everything first.

When Zaydan was born we did what most parents do. We went looking for the cleanest, gentlest, most natural baby lotion we could find. We read every label. We bought the ones that said organic, clean, fragrance free, hypoallergenic. We tried the ones at Target, the ones at Whole Foods, the ones that cost twice as much because the packaging looked more natural.

All of them had one thing in common. A long list of ingredients we could not pronounce. Preservatives. Synthetic compounds. Emulsifiers. Stabilizers. Things that exist in the formula not for Zaydan's skin but to keep a water-based product shelf stable for two years.

His skin kept reacting. Rashes, irritation, sensitivity that would not settle down no matter how premium the product claimed to be. We were spending more money on worse results.

"Every label said natural. Every label still had thirty ingredients. His skin still reacted."

We finally had enough.

Chapter Two

Two ingredients we already trusted.

We stopped buying and started researching. The first discovery was unrefined shea butter — pure, cold pressed, nothing added. The kind used by parents across West Africa and the Caribbean for generations before anyone put it in a fancy jar.

It helped. But Makka noticed a practical problem right away — raw shea butter in its solid form is grainy and hard to apply evenly on a baby. To get it smooth you have to rub it hard between your palms until body heat melts it down. It worked, but it was a process every single time.

Makka had the idea: mix coconut oil into the shea butter. The natural oils would soften it, make it easier to apply, and coconut oil on its own was already something trusted for baby skin.

Chapter Three

The microwave moment.

Jenny, our nanny, heard the idea and took the initiative on the spot. She had a baby to get lotioned up and did not have time to wait — she put the shea butter and coconut oil together and microwaved them until they turned liquid.

It worked in the immediate sense. But the ratios were off and the method was wrong — microwaving shea butter at high heat breaks down some of the natural properties that make it effective.

That is when Daniel stepped in and started researching properly.

"Shea butter and coconut oil are actually an excellent combination — but only when blended at the right temperature, in the right ratios, the right way."

It turns out the two ingredients are genuinely complementary. Shea butter provides deep moisture and anti-inflammatory properties. Coconut oil brings natural antifungal protection and lightens the texture so it absorbs properly. Together, blended correctly, they create something better than either ingredient alone.

Daniel made a proper batch. Applied it to Zaydan. His skin cleared up.

Chapter Four

Other parents started asking.

We were not trying to start a business. We were trying to solve a problem for our baby. But when you stop putting things on your baby's skin that do not belong there and the results are visible, people notice.

Parents in our circle started asking what we were using. What was in it. Whether they could get some. Makka and her sister wanted to start selling it right away — a website, marketing, the whole thing.

The honest advice was to slow down. Test it first. See if people actually want it before building the infrastructure around it. And in a space where nobody has a license or a certification, the most powerful thing you can have is trust. Not a brand. Not a logo. Trust.

Two Leaf Baby started with a YouTube video showing exactly how it is made, two ingredients listed plainly, a short shelf life disclosed upfront, and a batch date written by hand on every unit. That is still how it works today.

What We Stand For

The things that built trust early are worth protecting as you grow.

Most brands abandon the habits that made them great once they reach scale. We are building around them from day one.

Two ingredients you can pronounce

If you cannot find it in nature it is not in our products. This is not a marketing position — it is the entire formula.

Short shelf life as proof

30 days opened for the lotion, 45 for the balm. Nothing artificial is keeping this stable for two years. That is the point.

Every batch on video

We film every batch. Your order ships with a link to watch your product being made. Not a factory — a real kitchen, real hands.

Every order personal

While the camera is already rolling we turn it around. Your name. Your order number. A thank you from the person who made it.

Honest about limitations

We have an entire page on who should use caution. We would rather you buy the right product than just our product.

Made to order in Houston

Every order made fresh and shipped direct. Batch date written on every unit by hand. No warehouse, no aged inventory.

See It For Yourself

Watch us make it.

A kitchen. Two ingredients. The same batch your order ships from. Nothing hidden, nothing edited out.

The People Behind It

A small family business.
Houston, Texas.

Two Leaf Baby is run by Makka and her sister. Every batch is made by hand in small quantities. Every order ships with a personal thank you. The infrastructure behind it — the website, the automations, the batch video system — was built by Daniel so that the things that make this brand worth trusting do not get lost when orders grow.
