We started where most parents start — the baby aisle at Whole Foods. We read the labels. We bought the ones that said clean, organic, natural. And our baby still got a rash.
The problem was not that those products did not care about ingredients. The problem is that most natural baby lotions are still water-based, which means they still need preservatives to stay shelf stable for two years. More ingredients, more reactions, more frustration.
We stopped buying and started making. Unrefined shea butter and virgin coconut oil, blended properly, no water, no preservatives. It worked. Two Leaf Baby was born from that one batch.

Unrefined Shea Butter
Cold pressed from the shea tree nut in West Africa. Unrefined means nothing has been stripped — all natural vitamins A, E, and F are intact. Deeply moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and one of the most widely trusted ingredients for baby skin. Used by parents and caregivers across Africa and the Caribbean for generations.
Virgin Coconut Oil
Cold pressed, unrefined, no additives. Rich in lauric acid which gives it natural antifungal and antimicrobial properties. Lightweight enough to absorb without residue when blended properly with shea butter. The same ingredient used in Ayurvedic baby care for centuries. No trend — a tradition.

We do not hide this
- Tree nut allergy: Shea butter comes from the shea tree nut. Most allergists consider the risk extremely low as allergenic proteins are largely absent in the fat — but consult your pediatrician if your child has a known tree nut allergy.
- Eczema diagnosis: Coconut oil works well for many babies with eczema. However some dermatologists advise against it for certain eczema presentations. Patch test and monitor if your child has been diagnosed.
Why we tell you this upfront: Most brands bury their ingredient limitations or do not mention them at all. We believe the parents most likely to trust us are the ones we are honest with. Questions about the lotion
How much do I use per application?
A small amount goes a long way. Warm a pea-sized amount between your palms first — body heat helps blend shea butter and coconut oil into a smooth, light texture. Apply gently to your baby's skin. Start small and add more if needed.
Can I use it on my baby's face?
Yes. Both ingredients are gentle enough for the face. Avoid direct contact with the eyes.
Is it safe for newborns?
Yes. Both products contain only food grade natural ingredients with no synthetic additives, fragrances, or preservatives. Always patch test on a small area first as you would with any new product on newborn skin.
What does it smell like?
Unrefined shea butter has a mild natural nutty scent. Virgin coconut oil has a very light natural coconut scent. There is no added fragrance of any kind. The scent is subtle and fades quickly after application.
Can adults use it?
Yes. We make it for babies but shea butter and coconut oil are excellent for adult skin. One note for adults with acne-prone skin: coconut oil has a higher comedogenic rating and can clog pores for some people when used on the face. Better suited to body use for acne-prone adults.
What if it arrives and something is wrong?
Because this is a perishable handmade product we do not accept returns. However if your product arrived damaged, incorrect, or you have any concern at all — contact us and we will make it right. Every batch is recorded so we can trace exactly what was in your jar.
