Beeswax is a natural wax produced by honeybees to build their honeycomb. It is collected and filtered. It is not derived from the slaughter of an animal. The prohibition in Islamic law on animal-derived products primarily concerns animals slaughtered without the correct invocation, or things derived from blood, flesh, or organs of prohibited animals.
Beeswax does not fall into these categories. The majority of Islamic scholars across the major madhabs — Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali — consider beeswax halal. It has been used in foods, medicines, and cosmetics in Muslim-majority countries for centuries without controversy.
If beeswax is acceptable in your household
The Diaper Balm is halal. All three ingredients are either plant derived or a natural insect byproduct. No alcohol, no prohibited animal derivatives, no synthetic fragrance.
If you prefer to avoid beeswax entirely
The Baby Lotion contains no beeswax and is halal without any qualification. Two plant-derived ingredients. Use the lotion and skip the balm.

Is shea butter halal?
Yes. Shea butter is a plant-derived fat from the shea tree nut. It contains no animal derivatives and is widely considered halal by Islamic scholars across all major madhabs.
Is coconut oil halal?
Yes. Coconut oil is entirely plant derived with no animal ingredients. It is halal.
Is beeswax halal?
The majority of Islamic scholars consider beeswax halal. It is a natural byproduct produced by honeybees — not derived from slaughter, blood, or flesh. It has been used in foods, medicines, and cosmetics in Muslim-majority countries for centuries. Some households prefer to avoid it. We disclose it clearly and leave the standard to you.
Does the lotion contain any alcohol?
No. Neither product contains alcohol in any form — not as a preservative, solvent, fragrance carrier, or ingredient of any kind. Water-free anhydrous formulas do not require alcohol-based stabilizers.
Is there any synthetic fragrance?
No. There is no added fragrance of any kind in either product. The mild natural scent of unrefined shea butter and virgin coconut oil is all that is present. Fragrance compounds can contain alcohol or prohibited derivatives — we add none.
Are the products halal certified?
We are not halal certified. We are a small handmade brand. What we offer is complete ingredient transparency — two and three ingredients, fully disclosed, with no hidden compounds. The halal status of each ingredient is straightforward and verifiable by any Muslim parent in under a minute.
Which product should I use?
The lotion is halal without any qualification — two plant-derived ingredients, no beeswax. The balm contains beeswax, which most scholars consider halal, but we note it clearly for households with stricter standards. Many Muslim families use both. If you are uncertain about beeswax, the lotion alone is an excellent daily moisturizer for your baby's skin.
